Under this statute, a title pledge is a secured loan where the borrower uses their vehicle title as collateral. The pledgor retains possession of the vehicle throughout the loan term; the lender holds the title. Traditional title pledge lenders in Tennessee are capped at $2,500 under the Title Pledge Act.
Lenders licensed under other statutes may offer higher loan amounts. Tennessee title pledge loans have a minimum term of one month. At maturity, the borrower may redeem the title by paying the principal plus applicable fees. Review all terms — including the rate, total cost, and what happens in default — before signing.
